In general, a good rule of them is that two is a coincidence, three’s a trend. If that’s the case, then I’m ready to call shell bags a full-on fad; not only did Versace and Chanel both show shell purses during their respective Spring 2012 runway shows, but now Lanvin has dropped the Lanvin Minaudiere Satin Shell Clutch. Of the options, this Lanvin piece is by far my favorite. While Versace and Chanel both went for a completely literal take with pastels and pearls, Lanvin chose to make things a bit more interesting with a surprising color layered over a literal shape. That combination makes this clutch far more versatile, and in fact, it could be argued that you can actually use it year-round because of the emerald satin. That’s obviously not the case with either of the alternatives, although I’m sure that places like ASOS and TopShop will have fun creating many a variation on this theme in the months to come. It’s upon us, you guys. The holiday shopping season. It keeps starting earlier and earlier, but I refuse even to utter the words “holiday shopping” before Halloween is dead and buried. Today’s date is November 3rd, so I guess it’s time to stop pretending that Christmas isn’t barreling at us at top speed and start thinking about potential gifts. For those of you who refuse to think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, I completely understand, but I like to beat the rush.

Today, I’d like to tackle the question of what you buy for a bag lover when your budget isn’t huge. Someone who regularly treats themselves to bags worth four figures is a hard person to shop for, after all, when your target price range for a gift is likely somewhat lower. In my three years at PurseBlog, I’ve written a lot of posts that I never expected to write as part of my job here. For example, I never imagined myself Photoshopping a picture of a small, yappy dog next to a very expensive clutch for comparison’s sake. I never expected to write half of the things I’ve written about all manner of Real Housewives. Today’s Bag Battle, though? It might take the cake.

When I first saw the Marc by Marc Jacobs Snakes on a Frame Crossbody, I smiled at its relative novelty. A sunglasses bag! Cute! But yesterday morning I noticed the LeSportsac Divine Sunglasses Wristlet, and the coincidence seemed to fun to pass up. Of course, with two bags that share an unconventional theme, we have to put it to a vote: Which one do you like better? Check out larger photos of both bags and vote in our poll, after the jump.

At $298 vs. $25, the LeSportsac version definitely wins for kitsch value for the money. I could see having something silly like this in my purse to hold a few small items, but I don’t think I could spend a couple hundred dollars to wear the Marc by Marc version as a real handbag. Therefore, my vote goes firmly with LeSportsac.
