We’ve just finished up testing FujiFilm’s first “Lifeproof” digital camera, the FinePix XP10. This unit boasts some rugged specifications, along with several standard features found compact cameras today. The XP10 uses a 12-megapixel image sensor for capturing still images as well as 720p HD video, an internal 5x optical zoom lens, SR Auto mode, a 2.7-inch LCD and much more. On top of this, the XP10 can be submerged up to 3 meters (about 10 feet) underwater, dropped from 1 meter (3.3 feet), or taken in sub-freezing conditions down to -10°C (14°F). All of this for just $180 US.

Nikon Unveils New Entry-Level dSLR: the D3100

Early this morning Nikon announced yet another powerful dSLR, the D3100. While this is their new entry-level offering, the D3100 is packed with powerful features. These include a 14-megapixel CMOS image sensor, full 1080p HD video, full-time AF in Live View and Movie modes, 3.0-inch LCD, 11-point AF system, advanced Face Detection (recognizes up to 35 faces), and much more. The D3100 dSLR camera kit will start hitting shelves mid next month (September, 2010), and comes with Nikon’s AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR stabilized lens for $699.95 US.

Nikon Unveils Two New Coolpix Digital Cameras

Nikon has just announced two new Coolpix models, the S1100pj and S5100. Both offer appealing features for their price points, with the S5100 being an affordable point-n-shoot designed for those seeking an easy-to-use compact camera. Key features on the S5100 include 12-megapixels, a 5x optical zoom lens, 4-way VR image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD and 720p HD video recording. With a estimated retail price of only $179.95 US, this is sure to be a popular seller in the months to come.

Next we have the second generation of Nikon’s “Projector” line of compact digicams. The only manufacturer to offer such a specification, Nikon’s latest entry offers even more power with a 14-lumen internal projector that can display a 47-inch picture on a flat surface up to 7 feet away. The Coolpix S1100pj also boasts 14-megapixels of resolution, a wide view Zoom-NIKKOR 5x optical zoom lens, 5-way VR image stabilization, and a large 3.0-inch LCD with 460k dots. All this for just $349.95 US
