Olympus Releases a Firmware Update for their E-P3, E-PL3, and E-PM1 Digital PEN Cameras

Olympus has just revealed a new firmware update for their current Digital PEN offerings; the E-P3, E-PL3, and E-PM1. The update is minor, and doesn’t fix any real issues with the camera. The new firmware (Version 1.2) helps the camera display the focal length of electronic Zoom lenses more accurately, whether in the viewfinder(s) while shooting, in playback, or in the EXIF data.

You have two options for updating your camera’s firmware:

Simply launch the included Olympus camera software and connect the camera via USB cable to an internet connected computer. Choose the Update function from the Camera menu in the software to apply available updates for camera bodies, lenses and accessories.
Download the software updater from the following link: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_downloads_updater.asp and follow the installer instructions.

Either method allows you to choose to display information related to what the specific update will apply, prior to actually performing the firmware update.

Sony’s Firmware Update to NEX Cameras Provides Compatibility with the LA-EA2 Lens Adapter to All NEX Models

Up until now, the only cameras that
were able to use Sony’s newer LA-EA2 mount adapter were the NEX-5N, the
Nex-7 and the NEX-VG20. That’s not exactly a big lineup, but that
all changed yesterday.

Sony’s latest bit of firmware for the
NEX line of cameras gives them full compatibility with the adapter.
Now you’ll be able to use A-mount lenses with autofocus on the NEX-5, NEX-C3 and
even the NEX-VG10 camcorder. One of Sony’s pro model – the
NEX-FS100U – is getting the update as well.

The big difference between the EA2 and
EA1 mount adapters is in the improvements to focus. You can use phase
detect autofocus on every compatible camera and lens and speed has
been increased significantly.

New Nikon 1 Firmware Allows F-Mount Lens Use

Nikon has released a new firmware
update for the Nikon 1 J1 and Nikon 1 V1 that will certainly be a
welcomed addition for fans of the new mirrorless system.

Version 1.10 of the firmware for the J1
and V1 makes the cameras compatible with F-mount lenses. You’ll
still need the adapter to make the lenses connect on the mechanical
side, and we’re looking at an early 2012 release for that, but
updating your camera now means that you’ll be ready once the adapter
gets released.

In addition to the F-mount
functionality, pixel mapping has been added to the setup menu.
