Sony Adds a White Pixel to LCD Screens for Added Brightness

August 12th, 2011

Sony-White-pixel.jpgHere’s the scenario: you’re outside in
the bright sunlight and you’ve just taken a photo that you think is a
winner, but you can’t see the LCD screen on your camera. That’s a
problem that Sony is hoping to fix with their new LCD screens.

To address the issue, Sony has added a
white pixel into the normal red, blue and green mix. The company
says that their new WhiteMagic tech analyzes the picture and adjusts
the screen accordingly, eliminating image deterioration.

There isn’t any word from Sony on when
we can expect to see these in new cameras, but the company hopes to
add the efficient new displays into cameras and smartphones as soon
as possible.
