If you picked up an E-PL1 from Olympus, you now have the option to take your Micro Four Thirds System camera underwater.
The PT-EP01 is the first waterproof housing for a Micro Four Thirds camera, and like the E-PL1, it’s lighter and smaller than traditional SLRs. The housing, which is completely waterproof, weighs in at 1100g. It’s about half the weight of the underwater rig needed for the Olympus E-620.
The fixed lens port allows you to use an M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6L or M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f4.0-5.6 lens. You’ve also got the option of using the standard viewfinder or the VF-2 Live Viewfinder, as the case can accommodate both.
If you’re looking for flash, you can grab the UFL-2 underwater flash unit which uses the E-PL1′s built in flash as a command unit. The housing has ports for two connectors, so you can use three flashes in total: the camera’s built-in flash and two UFL-2 flash units.
The PT-EP01 is set to release in Japan first on March 5th. The going price is 71,000 yen, or around $800 USD.
