Alongside the announcement of the Nikon D4, Nikon has has launched an appealing new prime lens aimed at those who enjoy capturing portrait type photos. Officially named the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G, this lens was created specifically for FX-format Nikon dSLRS like the new D4 (full frame), and thanks to its wide open aperture and mid-telephoto focal range, this lens is sure to create some stunning portraits with wonderful bokeh.
Nikon also claims that along with producing “amazing clarity”, the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G is also lightweight and affordable. Mounted to your DX-format Nikon dSLR, the lens offers a field of view equivalent to approx. 127mm, which still quite usable for close-up portraits and macro shots.
Look for the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G to hit stores sometime in March, 2012. The MSRP is a surprising $499.95 USD, making it an obtainable option for many photogs.
