DIY: Weatherproof Your Camera with Old Rain Pants

If you’ve got some basic sewing skills, an old pair of rain pants and the desire to try it out, a photographer named Matti Hassinen has come up with a great way to keep your camera dry on the cheap.
Making the cover is surprisingly simple.  First, pick the old rain pants you’re going to use.  A lighter material is nice and easy to keep with you at all times, but a heavier fabric may provide better protection.
From there, it’s as easy as measure, cut, and sew.  You’ll also be sewing on a bit of Velcro which you’ll pull apart to let the lens peek out.
Admittedly, rain covers aren’t horribly expensive, but if you’re looking to save some money or you’re a fan of do-it-yourself projects, this is a great alternative.  You can find the instructions and photographs of the process at DIY Photography.
