Adobe Discontinues Mobile Flash – HTML 5 Wins Out

November 15th, 2011

Mobile-Flash.jpgIt’s been clear that Flash has been
losing out on the mobile market for a while. You can’t use it on
most phones, or if you can it requires a third party app.

Though believers in the format, Adobe
has finally given in. “HTML5 is now universally supported on
major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively,” says Adobe.
“This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying
content in the browser across mobile platforms.”

So what does this mean for
photographers? It means that if your website is primarily Flash
based, it’s time to change things up. Adobe is offering some bug
fixes for the last version supported by smartphones, but there won’t
be any new versions coming out.

Adobe says that Flash 12 for desktop
PCs is still on the way.
