Balenciaga on Rue La La RLL bal I plan to spend much of this weekend relaxing around the house. That means I will inevitably end up doing some online shopping and I have already bought the new Missoni x Converse shoes this morning. Now I am going gaga over RueLaLa’s Balenciaga sale. It just started, items are already selling out, but it is well worth the visit!

Digital Camera Reviews

100 years ago this week, mankind’s most luxurious ocean liner, the RMS Titanic, sailed from Southampton, England. After stopping in Cobh, Ireland, Titanic steamed eastward for America until an iceberg struck her down.
Out of 2,200 passengers, 1,500 souls perished.
Today, the tragedy remains a cautionary tale of hubris. A reminder of what happens when any man or woman dares to believe his or her own invincibility. James Cameron’s epic film based on the tragedy, now playing in 3D, has given audiences around the world the opportunity to go back in time and see scale-model / highly detailed recreations of what it was like to be there.
Thanks to Titanicphotographs.com, you can go even deeper: see the real Titanic via 100-year-old photographs. Just before a young man named Frank Browne became a Jesuit Priest, his Uncle Robert (the Bishop of Cloyne) sent him out to explore Europe. The trip included one First Class ticket on Titanic’s maiden voyage from Southampton to Cobh. Browne made friends  who offered to pay for him to continue to America, but when he telegraphed Uncle Robert to ask permission, the Bishop ordered Browne off the ship.
With one stroke of fate, and obedience, Browne and his wonderful photographs survived for you to explore:

Historians believe this man to be Jacques Futrelle, an American writer of short stories who perished abord the ship. Sadly unaware of his impending need for the life boat behind him.

Browne’s final photo of the doomed ship, sailing into the history books. This is the last surviving photograph of Titanic until the wreckage was found on September 1, 1985.
Really makes you think, doesn’t it?
A time capsule into a world gone by. They remind me a sidewalk I pass occasionally. There’s nothing inherently special about it, but someone — children or teenagers, perhaps — scribbled a couple names and the date before the concrete dried. The date? A mere two weeks before September 11, 2001. So, in a roundabout way, these historical Titanic photos feel akin to what it’s like looking at the New York skyline photographs from September 10.

Now that we’ve taken a moment to be reverential, let’s lighten up the mood a little. Here’s another “tragedy” (of the educational variety) that will hopefully make you chuckle. I give you, People Tweeting After Finding out Titanic is REAL despite access to Google and the opening scene in the movie where they show footage of the wreckage:

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: The greatest handbag romance ever told? Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are an item. Somehow, the two biggest publicity hounds in the entire entertainment industry have come together to make tabloid magic, although whether this pairing is true love or all business remains to be seen. (Take an educated guess and see where you find yourself.) The greatest news of all, though, is that Kanye is going to be featured on the upcoming season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians – that sound you just heard was E! executives involuntarily gasping with glee.

It’s well known in these parts that I’m a bit skeptical of Kim (although awed at her ability to make money), but I’m an unabashed Kanye fangirl. The more ridiculous he becomes, the more Yeezy I want in my life, which means that his “relationship” (scarequotes necessary, obvi) with Kim is a truly fortunate turn of events for me. If you’re a bag lover, it’s also oddly fortunate for you – Kim’s collection is legendary even among those who despise her, and Kanye has the best collection of man bags I’ve ever seen on a celebrity. But whose bag game is tighter? Let’s examine the evidence after the jump.

Kim Kardashian:

Kim’s got the obvious advantage because she’s female, which means that more designers cater to her handbag whims. Ms. Kardashian is famous for her love of Hermes Birkins, first and foremost, but her collection runs the gamut from petite silk Bottega Veneta Knot Clutches to traditional Chanel Classic Flaps. And even though Kim might not be universally adored, her fashion choices are talked about endlessly, so I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if boxes full of free, fabulous handbags find the way to her doorstep on the regular. Kim’s game is tight, but just like in Olympic gymnastics, her degree of difficulty hurts her overall score.

Kanye West:

Kanye nicknamed himself the Louis Vuitton Don long before most people even knew his real name, and his go-to man bags show his love for the French brand. Unlike Kim, Kanye’s style goes a bit outside the box; for example, the custom-made Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Backpack in several of these photos is rumored to have cost as much as $15,000. Being one-of-a-kind comes at a high price, and even though Kim could afford it easily, I’ve never noticed her carrying anything customized or bespoke. Since his Louis Vuitton days, Yeezy has branched out, embracing backpack style from other French brands like Goyard and Celine. Because he finds a way to break the men’s fashion mold time and time again and was doing so long before it was culturally popular, I award Kanye extra points for difficulty.

Coach teams up with artist James Nares for limited edition totes

Louis Vuitton may have pioneered the idea, but now handbags designers collaborating with high-profile artists is all the rage. Everyone from Dior to Coach has given it a shot, and in the case of Coach, it seems as though the company has judged such collaborations to be a roaring success. Fresh off of a much-loved menswear teamup with Hugo Guinness, the American handbag company has tapped New York artist James Nares to lend his prints to a collection of totes that will debut a week from today.

Coach x James Nares will feature the artist’s signature waves, which he paints on huge canvasses while hanging from a harness above them. Coach has translated those pieces into a set of six tote bags, each of which will be made in limited editions of 175. The leather-trimmed canvas totes will retail for $798 when they hit Coach stores and Coach.com on April 20. Check with your local store to see if they’ll be receiving pieces from the collection, or better yet, sign up for notification of the bags’ arrival at Coach.com. More images of the collection after the jump.
